Best part is the way the side lid opens to access logs but the unit is light and a little flimsy. Hard to get a cover that fits well for this pit too. No side edge to rest your feet on.
I decided to purchase this product for several reasons: 1. Now, I do not feel that I got nearly $150 worth of product in this pit. Okay, the pit works, first of all. My biggest complaint with this product, however, is the screen. I wanted a copper pit for some aesthetic reasons 3. I thought the idea of a swiveling screen was nice. First of all, I will admit that this is my very first firepit, so keep that in mind when considering my review. One they had was inset inside a square 'table' where you could prop your feet up on to get your toes 'toasty' warm.
After a couple of tries, we decided it wasn't even worth using and have cast it to the side. I wish I had shopped at Lowes or Home Depot first because they have some really nice looking pits for $160 down to $130. Well, there goes one main reason for choosing this pit. I went to Lowe's and purchased 4 16" porcelain floor tiles to make a big square under it, and then right in the middle, I placed a 14" square 2" think concrete paver. Based on the 5 5-star reviews here at Amazon 2. The screen mesh is too coarse to catch anything but the biggest of flying embers.
However, we are using it on a wooden deck and I can promise you that you will need to place something under it to protect the deck from heat. That, or something similar, is what you will need to protect your wooden deck from heat. But, it is very flimsy in construction and the least bump around the bottom ring will warp it (mine came out of round out of the box) and then it won't 'fit' on the inner ledge of the fire pit properly. My advice is don't be totally taken in by the photos and favorable reviews because this pit is worth $100 at most.
Since we got this patio fire pit last year we've extended our backyard season. Sets a nice atmosphere and gives you just enough extra warmth to enjoy the early fall evenings. Throw something on the grill and then enjoy a meal by the fire.
And I particularly wanted one that had a screen that you could open to add more wood. We have cooked sandwiches and pies in pie irons and toasted marshmallows, and of course, just sat and watched the flames dancing in the night. We have had this fire pit for about a month now and have had fires in it several times already. Much easier than trying to remove a hot screen. We live in Ohio and the evenings are cool enough to enjoy the fire. Since we leave this sitting on our contrete patio at all times, I did drill holes in the bottom of the copper bowl with a masonry bit to allow water to drain out. This is a sturdy and attractive fire pit. We plan on using it until winter and then will store it in the garage.
I bought this as a gift and the person I gave it to had only nice things to say about it. It arrived quickly and was very nicely packaged. Thank you.
